Tennessee

Tennessee features a diverse and varied topography characterized by its distinct regions, which include the Appalachian Mountains, the Central Basin, and the Gulf Coastal Plain. The state’s highest point is Clingmans Dome, rising to about 6,643 feet (2,025 meters) above sea level, while the lowest point is along the Mississippi River at approximately 178 feet (54 meters). The landscape transitions from the rugged, mountainous terrain in the eastern part of the state, where steep slopes and deep valleys predominate, to the rolling hills and flat lands found in the central region, specifically the Nashville Basin. To the west, the terrain flattens into the fertile plains of the Gulf Coastal Plain. This combination of elevations and landforms contributes to a rich variety of ecosystems and natural beauty across Tennessee.
